Barcelona are considering a surprise move for Chelsea
goalkeeper Petr Cech after realising their chase of the Blues young star
of the future looks destined to fail.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Camp Nou club have set their sights on three different options this summer, one of which includes trying to lure Cech away from Stamford Bridge.
Current Barcelona number one Victor Valdes has declared his intention to leave the nou camp when his contract expires at the end of this season, but officials at the Catalan club have not ruled out convincing him to stay on.
The report claims Atletico Madrid number one Thibaut Courtois was
high on the list of possible replacements, but he is on loan to the
Vicente Calderon from Chelsea and Jose Mourinho holds him in very high
regard.
Courtois confirmed he stayed at Atletico this season as he is the undisputed number one and did not want to risk sitting on the bench in a selection scrap with Cech in a World Cup season, as he battles with Liverpool's Simon Mignolet for the Belgium number one spot, though he insisted he was ready to battle for a staring XI place at Chelsea come next season.
This latest report claims Barcelona believe they are unlikely to convince Chelsea to part with such a promising talent in Courtois, so they will concentrate their efforts on the man the young Belgian will be trying usurp in west London.
Cech is 31 but showed in the recent UEFA Super Cup loss to Bayern Munich that he still has a lot to offer, putting in a sensational display, though he could not save them from a penalty shoot-out defeat.
