Chelsea Bought Experience - Emenalo

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo says Samuel Eto'o will add the kind of experience Chelsea sought for in Wayne Rooney.
The Blues made two bids for the England international during the summer transfer window, but they were rejected by Manchester United. Hence, the West London club opted for the Cameroon striker who was readily available at the time from Russian club Anzhi.
Eto'o penned a one-year deal from Anzhi Makhachkala before the end of the transfer window, joining Fernando Torres and Demba Ba as the club's main striking option.

Meanwhile, as well as bringing in Eto'o, Chelsea sent striker Romelu Lukaku to Everton on a season-long loan. And whilst Emenalo claims Eto'o is a good deal, he insists sending Lukaku out on loan was a good decision because the club does not want to pile pressure on the 20-year-old Belgian forward,
"In the case of Samuel Eto'o, it was an open secret that we wanted Wayne Rooney and I don't need to explain what the idea is behind wanting a player like Rooney," Emenalo told Chelsea's official website.
"But we are not desperate and we know for the future we have Romelu Lukaku and we hope that he will come through and lead the line. People keep forgetting that he is only 20, and looking at the short-term plan, we don't want to put too much pressure on a young player like him.
"So if we weren't able to get Rooney and we had Lukaku, Ba and Torres, we felt comfortable with them but we also felt comfortable to bring Eto'o to give us a little bit of competition, because we wanted to freshen up that position."
Though contented with club's forward line, Emenalo says it was necessary to bring in experience.
"We have every confidence in Torres, Ba and Lukaku but with Eto'o we have bought experience," Emenalo added.
