Former Nigerian international, Ben Iroha has
declared that the Flames of Malawi, will not pose any threat to the
Super Eagles in the Brazil 2014 World Cup last qualifier encounter at
the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
The former Super Eagles left wing
back who gave the assurances in a chat with Soccer Star in Abuja
recently hinged his conviction on the current form of the Stephen
Keshi-led boys, arguing that the impressive run of the team before and
during the Confederations Cup in Brazil were no fluke.
Asked his
fears over the possibility of Super Eagles picking the World Cup ticket
after the last qualifier stage, Iroha said: “I’m not entertaining any
fear because we are there already. Yes, I don’t want to sound too
confident but I know that the boys have done very well so far”
“It
was no fluke that the team pulled excellent results against Kenya and
Malawi. I am confident that next round qualifiers will not be a problem
to us. We have no reason to entertain any fear in the final qualifier
group match against Malawi because, apart from our home advantage, Keshi
will not allow the boys to relax,” he noted.
The former Watford
of England defender also spoke on the Super Eagles participation in the
Confederations Cup, maintaining that the quality of the three group
games they played were enough evidence that it was an impressive outing.
“Well,
I know many would say we should not use the Confederations Cup outings
to judge the form of the team, because we did not go there with our full
squads. We also heard arguments that the tournament involved world best
teams. But, I feel that they took the tournament serious.
“In
our three matches, we outplayed the other teams. Though Spain scored the
goals, we played the game. We would have levelled up in the first half
or even beat them, but unfortunately, we were unlucky. It did not take
out the fact that we had a good outing. I am very impressed with them,”
he quipped.
The former Eagles reliable left full back also joined
the lingering debate concerning code of conduct for Super Eagles,
emphasising that Keshi has the final say.
“If it is necessary
they should sign code of conduct, they should do so. The most important
thing is for the coach to approve it. If Keshi says it is okay for him
and it will not distract his team, it is also okay by me,” he noted.
