Mauri Handed Six-Month Ban In Match-Fixing Scandal

The former Italy international is one of five players who has been punished for his part in the match-fixing controversy

The Italian football federation (FIGC) has announced that Lazio skipper Stefano Mauri has been suspended for six months for failing to report match-fixing activities in the Scommessopoli scandal, while Mario Cassano, Stefano Ferrario, Carlo Gervasoni and Alessandro Zamperini have all been punished, too.

The five players were under investigation for alleged sporting fraud relating to the Lazio matches against Genoa and Lecce at the end of the 2010-11 Serie A season and have now been found guilty by FIGC's disciplinary committee.

"In relation to the match between Lazio and Genoa, Gervasoni has been handed a two-month ban, Cassano a four-month suspension, Ferrario and Mauri are banned for six months and Zamperini receives a two-year ban," a statement on the FIGC website reads.

"Additionally, Lecce will be fined €20,000 and Lazio €40,000 in relation to the match between Lazio and Lecce.

"These are the decisions of the national disciplinary committee chaired by Sergio Artico in Cremona on Calcioscommesse."
