Luis Suarez Sets Transfer Deadline

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has set a deadline of Friday week to get his future resolved, as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City track the controversial Uruguay international.
Although reluctant to sell Suarez, Liverpool are holding out for an offer of upwards of £50 million if they are to entertain the prospect of allowing the 26-year-old to leave Anfield before the transfer deadline.
Arsenal have made two bids for Suarez - both of which have been rejected by Liverpool - and were led to believe their most recent offer of £40,000,001 would be enough to activate a release clause in the player's contract.
This, however, was not the case and, with Liverpool in a strong bargaining position, it remains unclear is Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will make any further attempts to bring the Uruguayan to the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are reported to view Suarez as an alternative to Wayne Rooney should the Manchester United star not join the Stamford Bridge club, while Manchester City were credited with interest in the Liverpool hotshot on Wednesday.
Suarez now hopes to have his destination decided by the end of next week, although Liverpool's insistence that he will not be sold to a Premier League rival may prevent the player securing the transfer he seemingly craves.
"Luis wants everything done and dusted by next Friday," a Liverpool source is reported to have told SportsDirectNews.
"He’s keen to move on, as people know, but he doesn’t want it to turn into a saga. He knows clubs are interested in him and he desperately wants one of them to make an acceptable offer soon."

Heartland Fc Eliminated From Fed Cup

Heartland have been eliminated from this year's Federation Cup by Akwa United in a quarterfinal clash in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The Cup holders got off to a fine start when David Tyavkase scored just seven minutes before the break.
The defending champions deservedly took a one-goal lead into the break.
However, the cookie started to crumble for the Owerri club 19 minutes into the restart when Ini Akpan put Akwa United on level terms.
Both teams played the last 26 minutes without any effect on the outcome of the match.
After playing out a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Heartland were bundled out of the Cup competition on 4-5 penalties.
The loss brings to an end Heartland's two-year reign as Federation Cup champions.
Warri Wolves secured the biggest win of the quarterfinals when they ran over Glo Premier League champions, Kano Pillars in Ilorin.
The contest looked all but over inside the first half hour as Musa Najare struck twice inside 20 minutes before Super Eagles forward, Oghenekaro Etebo scored the third after capitalising on a defensive error by Kano Pillars.
In Enugu, Akwa Starlets pushed last season's runners-up, Lobi Stars, deep into the last 10 minutes before Victor Obinna scored the winner via Ezekiel Bassey's cross to ensure a 2-1 win.
In the opening half, Lobi had taken the lead inside 10 minutes through Chimaobi Nwaogu before the impressive Utibe Archibong equalised for Starlets on 31 minutes.
Two-time Caf Champions League winners, Enyimba also progressed into the last four following their 1-0 win over Nasarawa United in the day's early kick-off at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
Once again, youngster Bobby Sokari scored for Enyimba and his 55th minute goal turned out to be the winner though Nasarawa United should have conceded more as Sibi Gwar and Andrew Abalogu could not convert when in good scoring positions.
For the semifinals, two former winners, Enyimba and Lobi Stars will go head-to-head while Akwa United and Wolves battle each other for a first-ever Cup final appearance.
FEDERATION CUP RESULTS
Heartland 1-1 Akwa United (Akwa United progress 5-4 on penalties)
Warri Wolves 3-0 Kano Pillars
Nasarawa United 0-1 Enyimba

Omeruo May Not Be In Mourinho's Plan

The Super Eagles defender was expected to make a strong statement to getting a squad number for the 2013/14 season at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have left out Kenneth Omeruo from the squad they took to the United States of America as they begin the last leg of pre-season training.

Omeruo had been expected to make the squad after doing well for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations and at the Confederations Cup but it seems that he is not going to be part of Jose Mourinho's plans - at least for the forthcoming season.

The likes of Nathaniel Chalobah, Josh McEachran, Lucas Piazon have been farmed out on loan and Mourinho mentioned Chalobah specifically that this would be his last loan stint but the portuguese has been silent on Omeruo, which may mean he does not figure in the plans for the new season.

Omeruo could have replaced Tomas Kalas, who had to pull out of the USA tour because of injury but Mourinho has chosen not to replace the 20-year-old Czech Republic defender.

Omeruo has spent two seasons on loan at ADO Den Haag in Holland and may be best advised to tow that same route again.

Chelsea Eyes Champions League Than Premiership

Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and the subsequent arrival of José Mourinho, Chelsea have been tipped as hot favourites to lift the Premier League crown next May.
Whilst the Blues fell short in 2012/13, patches at the beginning and end of the last campaign more than demonstrated their title credentials with breathtaking performances against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in those periods.
The excitement of the new Premier League season has perhaps understandably led to many overlooking the Champions League campaign.
Whilst Bayern Munich will undoubtedly be favourites to retain their trophy, Mourinho will relish the opportunity to get under the skin of Pep Guardiola ahead of their forthcoming UEFA Super Cup clash.
Whilst Mourinho's criticism of the Europa League could be seen as a thinly veiled dig at nemesis Rafael Benitez, there could be a hidden agenda behind those comments, suggesting he believes his side are far above a competition of that stature.
Given Chelsea's poor performance in the Champions League last season, there is plenty for the players to prove.
In David Luiz and Juan Mata, they have two of the best players in the Premier League, as well as bright prospects in Eden Hazard, Oscar, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.
As much as Mata has been a revelation for Chelsea - arguably his best performances for the Londoners have come in the Premier League - he has yet to excel in the Champions League to truly elevate his status, that undoubtedly see him as first choice for the Spain national team ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
When you look across Europe, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are vulnerable in the sense that they approach this campaign with a manager that has never managed them before, and the same applies to both Manchester clubs as well as Bayern Munich.
Further afield, even Paris Saint-Germain have gone through managerial change. Other than Bayern Munich, there is no real standout side in the Champions League at this moment in time.
Chelsea are a young and exuberant side, but with youth, often comes inexperience and inexperience inevitably leads to lack of consistency. That may suggest that the Blues are better equipped to win the Champions League.
Chelsea have proven over the last two seasons they have the experience and know-how to win in Europe, and can take both experiences into the new campaign.
Not long after Mourinho was appointed Real Madrid manager, he said they would not peak until 2012, and was proven correct as they set unprecedented records including a century of points in La Liga. Since his return to SW6, Mourinho has repeatedly highlighted the fact his side is not yet at their peak in an attempt to manage fans expectations.
Mourinho would love nothing more than to fill the gap he left at Chelsea by winning the Champions League with the club, and in the process, getting one over his former employers Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as Pep's Bayern Munich.
The Champions League final being at the home of another former employer – Benfica - in his native Portugal next May means that there is no bigger incentive for success ahead of this season's European campaign.

Beckham & Ronaldo At Real Madrid Training

Real Madrid's pre-season tour of the United States started with a bang after a surprise visit from David Beckham to the club's Los Angeles training camp, where he met up with some of his old team-mates and posed for a photo with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 38-year-old arrived at the UCLA campus to watch his former Paris Saint-Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti put his new players through their paces during an open training session, as the Spanish club continue their preparations for the new campaign with a four-stop tour of North America.
Ancelotti swapped Parc des Princes for the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this summer just weeks after Beckham announced his retirement from professional football, having helped PSG to their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years.
After training, Beckham and Ronaldo had pictures taken together before proceeding to sign shirts and footballs for a number of lucky Real Madrid fans, who came down to the university to see their favourite stars - past and present - in action.
It's the fourth consecutive summer that Real Madrid have toured America, with this year's trip taking in visits to Phoenix, Miami and Saint Louis.
First up, the Galacticos face a match against another of Beckham's former clubs, LA Galaxy, in the Guinness International Champions Cup in Arizona on Friday, before returning to Los Angeles to play either Everton or Juventus in the next phase of the tournament.
Real Madrid returned to training two weeks ago, and began their pre-season schedule in England with a resounding 6-0 victory over Championship outfit Bournemouth, with Ronaldo on the scoresheet twice as he looks to rediscover the form that saw a return of 55 goals in 55 matches in all competitions last season.

Nigeria's Club 3SC Slashes Gbolahan Salami's Salary For Waywardness

Shooting Stars have vowed to slash the salary of their impressive striker, Gbolahan Salami after his absence from the team's camp
After going AWOL and missing training sessions without official permission from the club, Shooting Stars of Ibadan have placed their in-form striker, Gbolahan Salami on half salary.

The Board and Management of the club in a press statement relayed by the Oluyole Warriors' media officer, Jubril Arowolo, said they took the action to enforce discipline in the beleaguered club.

Arowolo in a statement made available to Goal stated: "The board and management of Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC, Ibadan have taken this drastic step in enforcing discipline in the team by placing Gbolahan Salami on half salary.

"The 'enfant terrible' of the Nigerian league has failed to turn up for the club's training sessions in the last two days without official permission.

"As such, the club, after [Monday] training sessions and with no visible clue of the striker's whereabouts, we have decided to cut his monthly pay by half," Arowolo's statement read.

Salami, who had courted controversies in the past has scored over four goals for the Ibadan side in the league this season. He also netted in his last official game for 3SC - the 3-1 loss to Enyimba in a Federation Cup Round of 16 clash played last week in Abuja.

2013 Goal 50 List: Mikel Obi And Victor Moses Deserve A Mention’- Nigerians React

This year’s list of best players in the world has generated heated arguments among a cross section of readers who feel more Super Eagles deserve to be mentioned
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. This aptly points to Nigeria football fans, who like Oliver Twist are not satisfied with the inclusion of only Sunday Mba, a first-time entry for the country as they have queried why no other Super Eagles’ stars made the 2013 Goal 50 list, released on Monday.

Before this year, no Nigerian had made the Goal 50 list decided by over 500 journalists across the Goal.com platform.
The non-inclusion of John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses is the bone of contention as they question selectors over the absence of the Chelsea duo.
Has Goal been fair to Nigeria in this annual ritual to determine outstanding footballers? What justifications does the world’s biggest football website have for rating South Africa’s goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune above Mikel and Moses? Did they not win the Africa Cup of Nations and Europa League in the period under review? How did Mohammed Aboutrika and Victor Wanyama find their way on the log despite not participating in the
just concluded Nations Cup?
Akinmurele Abiodun observed that the inclusion of Sunday Mba was more than justified.

Mba single-handedly gave the Super Eagles the Nations Cup trophy. His breath-taking performance against Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso are testimonies to his hard work.” However, Abiodun expressed his disgust over the omission of Mikel and Moses. “I can’t help but wonder why Moses and Mikel were excluded. How come?” he queried.
In the same vein, Ajunwa Julian was surprised at the exemption of the duo. “Moses and Mikel had a fantastic outing at the Africa Cup of Nations and were both instrumental to Chelsea winning the Europa League," he stated, before concluding, “The selectors are biased.”

Apanisile Oluseye countered a rather disappointed Julian, who was bamboozled by the fact that notable Nations Cup absentees, Mohammed Aboutrika and Victor Wanyama were enlisted ahead of the Chelsea players.
Oluseye lauded Goal for leaving out the Europa League winners.

“Moses as far as I am concerned has not made a bold statement for club and country, so I see no reason why he should be mentioned,” he explained. “As for Mikel, his major  undoing is his inability to score goals. Should Goal now substitute goal scoring midfielders for him just because he won the Nations Cup and Europa League?”

Another reader, Ropo Olawunmi hit back insisting Victor Moses was the reason why Sunday Mba became a revelation in South Africa.

Victor Moses scores penalty against Ethiopia

“If Moses had not made that man of the match display that saw us win our last group game against Ethiopia, would Mba have scored in the quarter final and final? If we are to judge by Afcon, Moses made meaningful impact,” he blasted.
As for Oseme Stey, he made a case for the likes of Emmanuel Emenike, Godfrey Oboabona and Ahmed Musa saying that “Did Burak Yilmaz, Jackson Matinez, Paulinho and Fred perform better than Emenike, Musa and Oboabona? I suspect foul play somewhere.”
However, David Obasogie decided to tow another dimension preferring the choice of Vincent Enyeama and Godfrey Oboabona in his top 50 list.

“Godfrey Oboabona did tremendously well for both club and country. He has not missed a second in the Super Eagles; hence I think he deserves a place in the Goal 50 ahead of Wanyama and Khune," said Obasogie.
“Left for me, I would vote the trio of Mikel Obi, Godfrey Oboabona and Vincent Enyeama ahead of any other Super Eagles star,” he concluded.

Nigeria's Imoh Ezekiel of Standard Liege Starts Well

Nigerian strikers abroad had good weekends by getting on the score sheet but this Belgium-based lad nicked it with his two goals in the Europa League and an assist in the league despite not playing full matches.
The 19-year-old has started his second season with Standard on a very bright note as he continues to produce the goods. He got two goals against KR of Finland in the Europa League second qualifying round to round up a 6-2 aggregate win.
The former 36 Lions FC striker came on against KR in the 57th minute and scored in the 68th and 73rd minutes. Also last Saturday in a Jupiler Liga match away to Mechelen, he started and lasted for 77 minutes before he was replaced by Igoe de Camargo but he provided the assist for the first goal of that encounter in the 57th minute.

Super Eagles Goalie Enyeama Will Be Lille’s Number One

The Nigeria goalkeeper has been rewarded with a starting place in the French club by his coach following his year-long loan in Israel
Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama will be first choice goalkeeper at Lille for the 2013/14 season after a year-long loan deal at Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel.
30-year-old Enyeama left Lille last season after being unable to get consistent play time at the then French champions as he was second choice to Mickael Landreau.
However, L’Equipe reports that coach Rene Girard will now make the Nigerian his first choice in goal with the new season set to commence, ahead of Steeve Elana who took charge after Landreau’s departure in December 2012.
Enyeama, who had been linked with a move to Spain, will look to stay at the club as he hopes to keep his place in the Nigeria squad leading to next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Inter Milan Want New Chelsea Star Wallace On Loan

Inter Milan are pursuing the possibility of signing Chelsea’s Brazilian right-back Wallace on loan, according to his agent.
The Nerazzurrri recently missed out on signing Napoli’s Juan Zuniga, but after he decided to stay at the Stadio San Paolo, they have decided to look at other options.
Wallace was signed by Chelsea from Fluminense last December, and was loaned back to the club until the end of last season, as his lack of international appearances prevented him from being given a work permit.
The 19-year-old played for his new team for the first time in their pre-season tour of Asia, but he is not expected to hold a regular starting place in the first team next season, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic both ahead of him in the pecking order.
His agent Federico Moraes said to FC InterNewsTV: "He should end up in Italy.
"My assistants are in London right now and there should be a meeting to discuss Wallace's future. Chelsea are flying [to the USA] and he's not just going to stay in London doing nothing.
"If [Inter] want him, then I think a deal can be done in an instant."
Roma and Napoli have also shown an interest in taking Wallace on loan, and Chelsea are keen on giving him a better chance of playing regularly.

Capello Index Player Analysis: Maxime Gonalons

Zlatan Ibrahimovic? No, Maxime Gonalons. The Lyon midfielder, a Napoli target since the very beginning of the transfer market (even though he was earlier linked with an Arsenal move as well), was rewarded by the Capello Index as the best player of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1, and with good reason if we take a deeper look at his numbers.
The 24 year-old France international, whose evaluation reached the €10 million mark, obtained a season index of 65,06, and surely not thanks to his goals, as he only netted three in 35 league outings (plus one in six caps in the Europa League), plus 9 saved attempts (73,92) and even no assists: not much really, but efficiency nearby the opponents' box is definitely not his cup of tea considering that he scored just eight in 150 career matches. What's really extraordinary in his card is the pass accuracy, especially in relation to the number of possessions: 2530 total passes, 2229 of which positive, for an awesome average of 88,10%. To make a comparison, the historical kings of this category (Xavi and Pirlo) had 92,69% and 82,34% respectively.
Other impressive numbers are those regarding the balls recovered (344, for a rating of 68,88), an average of more than 8 per match, in front of only 42 lost, less than one per match, plus an extraordinary 132 interceptions (rating of 70,94), a number that finds few equals in Europe, and the aerial plays won: his 187 cm allowed him to prevail in 72 out of 99 duels, for a rating of 65,00. But that's not all: 141 tackles won (rating of 71,86) and only 27 lost are a further evidence of how strongly Gonalons makes his presence felt in the middle, and all this with only 95 fouls committed (a little more than two per match), in front of 60 suffered, and 13 yellow cards, two of which in the same match for the lone ejection of his season.

Super Eagles Oboabona Sparks Controversy In England

Oboabona sparks controversy in England

Godfrey Oboabona has sparked a huge controversy in England, for reportedly snubbing Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. The Gunners manager had asked the Super Eagles defender to come to Emirates for trials after he shone at the Nations Cup in January.

The story, which was reported by British tabloid, The Sun, stirred a huge controversy as fans passed their comments on the issue.

“Erm, who? And you won what?” A fan wrote.

“Hahahahahaha, that’s funny, it’s not like he even plays for a league club, oh well, better you stay in Sunshine Stars bench if we hurt your feelings so much,” another wrote.

But another fan rose in staunch support of the defender: “The last time I check the fella is an African Nations Cup champion, so he does deserve his respect. Breaking into the Super Eagles as a home-based player ain’t easy one bit,” he wrote.

“Drogba, Toure and co never got that honour of winning. If he was an European champion, he would have been treated with respect and a lot of matches and teams in the European version were not up to scratch. So, give on to him what he deserves,” he added.

“A champion is a champion whatever their skin colour is and its disrespectful to insult an entire continent over a mere under performing football club. You don’t invite a continental champion, whichever continent it is to come for trial, it’s an insult period! You either take him as you see him or you don’t, only one player at Arsenal football club has ever had that honour of being African Champion!” the writer noted.

Tottenham Joins Chase For Suarez If Bale Goes

Tottenham could join north London rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Premier League star Luis Suarez from Liverpool, if the club were to offload Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in a mega-money move.
According to the Metro, the Spanish giants have tabled an offer for Welsh winger Gareth Bale in the region of £85m but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell his star man to the Spanish side.
Tottenham have been targeting a striker throughout the transfer window, with Christian Benteke and Roberto Soldado just a couple of names who have been on Spurs' radar.
With Benteke penning a new contract with current club Aston Villa, this leaves Soldado Spurs' main option, with the Spain international striker also a target for Liverpool.
Suarez could be a backup option for Spurs, if they fail to land Soldado, but the north London club will be looking to far move for the Uruguayan international, if they want to compete with Arsenal who made a £40m bid for Suarez, which was rejected by Liverpool.
Suarez has also been a target for Spanish outfit Real Madrid, but with the possibility of a mega-money move for Bale, the Spanish club may not have the funds to complete a move for the Liverpool striker - also after the signings of Asier Illarramendi and Isco with a combined fee of £50m for the Spanish duo, earlier this month.
Suarez would be a brilliant signing for the Premier League club, but with attracted interest elsewhere and also with Spurs not competing in the Champions League - something that the striker wants - a move could be unlikely.

Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness Charged With Tax Evasion

UliHoeness_BayernMunich

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has been charged with tax evasion by German prosecutors.
A spokesman for the Munich prosecutors said Hoeness’s lawyers have one month to respond to the charges and a court will decide whether to take him to trial.
Spokesman Ken Heidenreich refused to comment on further details of the indictement.
Hoeness originally reported himself to authorities earlier in 2013 in regards to an undeclared Swiss bank account.
The German and European champions’ supervisory board stuck by Hoeness’s side during the investigation and said he would remain in his job.
Hoeness played for Bayern Munich during the 1970s and later served as their general manager before becoming the club’s president.

Messi Caught With Blonde Stripper During CR7 Party Session

Lionel Messi caught with blonde stripper during Ronaldo party session
Lionel Messi looks set to be at the centre of a storm after a magazine in Argentina published a picture of him cosying up to a busty blonde  stripper in Las Vegas.
The Barcelona man has a clean-cut image in Europe but may have some questions to answer after he was spotted looking sheepish as his head was thrust into the bosom of the Las Vegas stripper.
Published under the headline "Night of chaos in Las Vegas”, the 26-year-old father-of-one was apparently partying in "Sin City" alongside Brazilian legend Ronaldo following an exhibition match in Chicago on July 6.
The story gets even more bizarre as Pronto claim that Messi's wife Antonella Roccuzzo found out about his exploits while she was away on holiday with Cesc Fabregas and his girlfriend, Daniella Semaan.
And it could all get a lot worse for the four-time Ballon d'Or winner after CNN reporter Tancredi Palmeri hinted that more explicit pictures of his night in Vegas were due to be published.
But perhaps the strangest aspect of the story is the fact that the Pope himself seems to be endorsing Messi's action. For shame….

Haruna Scores Monster Goal

Nigerian midfielder, Lukman Haruna is flavour of the month in Ukraine after scoring an outrageous goal for Dynamo Kiev against Sevastopol in the Ukrainian Premier League on Sunday.
Haruna’s jaw-dropping effort in the 14th minute represented Dynamo Kiev’s first goal in the 2-0 win against the visitors at the Valeri Lobanovsky, Kiev as the competition entered matchday three.
The 22-year-old received a pass from the right from French teammate, Benoit Tremoulinas over 35 yards away from goal.
With little danger lurking, Haruna let fly a right-footed pile driver that nestled in the top left hand corner to the astonishment of all.
Diumerci Mbokani added a second for the home side five minutes after the break to complete a comfortable victory but it was Haruna’s goal that dominated the front and back pages after the game.
Sunday’s game against Sevastopol represented his third start for Dynamo Kiev in as many matches and he has now repaid the faith shown in him by the club’s trainer, Oleh Blokhin.
Haruna’s compatriot, Brown Ideye came on as a second half substitute for Mbokani who was hooked after 66 minutes.
It was Ideye’s first league appearance of the season for Dynamo Kiev after being left on the substitute’s bench in the club’s first two games of the season against Volyn and Hoverla.

Arsenal To Ship Out Aneke

Nigerian-born Arsenal midfielder, Chuks Aneke may not play a competitive game for the Gunners in the 2013/14 season as the club look to loan him to a side where he is likely to get regular playing time.
Aneke spent two seasons with League One (English third tier) club, Crewe Alexandra last season, and they have been in talks to get him back.
The midfielder scored eight goals in 38 appearances during two productive loan spells at the League One outfit last campaign.
Now Crewe boss, Steve Davis has told the BBC that he is keen to bring the 20-year-old back to the Alexandra stadium.
"I've had dialogue with Chuks, he's been in Asia. So we'll just check out that position there," David told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He did terrific for us last season. I think initially people didn't see his quality, but over time he came to fruition and his fitness was much better.
"The quality, creativity and goalscoring ability he's got was apparent to everybody. He's the creative player that (former captain Luke) Murphy was and we could do with that type."
Aneke, who has been likened to the Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure by Arsene Wenger is seemingly favourably disposed to the move to Crewe.
The starlet, who has represented England at under-19 level, said he has been trying to win the trust of Wenger but would not hesitate to move to Crewe if it would guarantee him having more minutes under his belt.
"I just want to impress the boss and try and get an opportunity. If that's not achievable then I want to play some games. I played a lot of games when I was at Crewe last season,” he was quoted saying by authoritative British newspaper, Mirror.
"Arsenal is a very fantastic team and if it is not possible to break into the team then maybe I can go on loan somewhere. I was on loan last season so I didn't train with the Arsenal first-team until pretty much the end of it.
"I'm looking forward to training with the first-team again. I've done that quite a bit already. It's nice to come out of London to see the other the side of the world. I've not had much opportunity to come to places like this.
"My main objective as a young player is to play games and impress the manager. I want to come over here and show the boss what I can do and hopefully get some game time," he said.

Akpom Strikes Again For Gunners

Nigerian-born Arsenal starlet, Chuba Akpom continued to prove himself as an invaluable asset to the Gunners with a goal in Tuesday’s 4-4 draw against League one club, Leyton Orient.
Akpom impressed in the thoroughly entertaining friendly game at the Matchroom stadium as he scored in the 53rd minute to help the London club claw back a two goal deficit to claim a share of the spoils.
Tuesday’s game was the first game for Arsenal since their return from pre season in Asia.
Akpom’s goal was a typically predatory finish as he latched on to a pass in the 53rd minute before sliding past the Orient keeper, Jamie Jones.
The 17-year-old also had a hand in the second goal scored by Arsenal as his audacious interception and nifty pass freed Wellington Silva in the 51st minute.
The attacker, who was substituted after 76 minutes subsequently took to Twitter after the game to discuss his performance against the side campaigning in the third tier of English football.
“Drew 4-4 with Leyton Orient first team, was a great game, scored 1 , hungry as ever,” he tweeted via @cakpom9 to his 41,812 followers.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian-born youngster on the books of Arsenal, Chuks Aneke also played in the game against Leyton Orient.
Aneke was arguably Arsenal’s best performer on the night as he put in a composed and consistent display throughout.
His ingenious reverse pass in the 34th minute put Eisfeld clean through but the forward dragged his effort wide.
Aneke who has been linked with a move to Crewe Alexandra in recent days also provided the assist for Akpom’s goal in the 53rd minute.
Both players who have represented England at youth level and are still eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level will be keen to play a part in Wenger’s plans for the 2013/14 season.

Pellegrini Is 'Like Wenger' - Samir Nasri

Manchester City star Samir Nasri has heaped praise on new manager Manuel Pellegrini saying the Chilean reminds him of Arsene Wenger.
Nasri had a difficult season last year, failing to find his top form and being openly criticised by Roberto Mancini in the process.
Now, however, the Frenchman claims he is full of confidence along with the rest of the squad and attributes that fact to the appointment of Pellegrini.
He is quoted in The Sun as saying: “He talks with the players. What I like about him is that he talks about things outside football.
“He asks you how you are in your life. It’s important for a manager to know those things. He’s kind of a psychologist.
“For me, he is a little bit like Arsene Wenger. Same kind of training. Same attitude as well.
“He stays present in the training and is not scared to stop the training when something is wrong."
The 26-year-old has also said he is prepared to fight for his place after the club brought in several new attacking players.
Jesus Navas is has been brought in from Sevilla and the Spaniard may represent direct competition for Nasri. However, Nasri is happy with the depth of the squad and just wants to put a tough season behind him and move on.
“At a top club you have to be prepared to fight for your place," he said.
“We have a great squad and I’m confident we can achieve what we want.
“Last year was the toughest season of my career. I had a lot of injuries and didn’t perform for six months.
"I just don’t want to look back. I want to be focussed on this season with the new manager and give everything for the people who brought me to the club."

Arsenal Embarrassed On Twitter Over Higuain Transfer

The official Arsenal Twitter account asked their fans an innocent question ahead of the annual Emirates Cup, which takes place this weekend.
The Arsenal media team posed the question: "Which players are you most looking forward to seeing at #EmiratesCup2013 this weekend? Let us know using our dedicated hashtag now!"
But instead of naming players from their own squad, the majority of Gooners opted for a slightly more tongue-in-cheek response - Napoli's new striker, Gonzalo Higuain.
The Argentine was close to sealing a big-money move to the Emirates this summer, but a string of events lead to him moving to Napoli instead.
Primarily, Real Madrid added £10 million to their asking price, which resulted in Arsene Wenger ending his pursuit of the Argentine hit-man, instead giving his full attention to the possible transfer of Luis Suarez - one that is still on the cards.
However, Higuain was reportedly a 'done deal' by many media outlets, and the fact the £34.4 million forward is now set to play for Napoli on Saturday against Arsenal, while the Gunners themselves have no new addition, has been the source of much frustration for the fans.
Arsenal fans were promised 'big signings' this window, and their patience is being pushed to the limit with Wenger recently admitting the north London outfit were not close to signing anyone.
Thus far, Yaya Sanogo is the only addition to squad, and he joined on a free transfer and is unproven in the Premier League.
That said, to say Arsenal haven't been busy at all would be untrue - there have been productive transfers with regards to those leaving the club.
Arsenal have managed to shift the likes of Andrei Arshavin, Denilson, Sebastian Squillaci and Vito Mannone among others.
This list is set to be extended even further, with Gervinho set for AS Roma and Nicklas Bendtner the subject of a swap deal with Malaga. Marouane Chamakh has also been linked with newly-promoted Crystal Palace.
While this is all positive, Arsenal need to use their new resources wisely to bring in some top quality players, or this light-hearted Twitter embarrassment will soon turn into a mob of angry Arsenal fans - and who can blame them?

Chelsea: Future XI

Here is a look at the possible Chelsea side in a few years if Jose Mourinho decides to drop golden oldies like Frank Lampard, John Terry and Petr Cech to allow other players get their time to shine.
Assuming that Mourinho will take on the 4-2-3-1 formation that the Blues used over the course of the 2012/13 season, here is a possible look at the team of the future.
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois | 21
A fantastic prospect, Courtois has been on loan at Atletico Madrid for two years and is returning for his third spell at the third-placed club in the Spanish La Liga.
Courtois was in goal when Madrid beat Chelsea a net-busting 4-1 in the European Super Cup.
At such a young age, he was chosen as the goalkeeper of the season in the Spanish league when up against much more experienced goalkeepers is quite an achievement.
Right-back: Cesar Azpilicueta | 23
After moving to Marseille, Azpilicueta managed 27 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea in his first season.
He has great defensive strengths and is also very fluid in going forward and sending in a beautiful cross.
Without a doubt, if Azpilicueta can keep his form up and continue to improve he could become a leading right-back in the Premier League.
Centre-back: Gary Cahill | 27
Gary Cahill - possibly the only true centre-back left, excluding John Terry.
He is a clear favourite to replace the Chelsea captain in the heart of their defence. With both speed and strength, Cahill is not as skilful as others but has a real passion and drive that helps the team feel confident all over the pitch.
Like Terry, Cahill is able to go up at corners and score headers from set-pieces. At least for a few more years, or unless another defender is brought in, Cahill is a must for the Chelsea defence.
Centre-back: David Luiz | 26
Mixing both Brazilian flair and rock-hard defending, David Luiz is an inspiring centre-back.
Maybe preferred to be played as a defensive midfielder by some, Luiz would still be able to attack if a midfielder stayed back to cover for him.
The Brazilian would light up any team he plays for with his incredible long-range shots and his thumping free-kicks.
With two rock solid centre-backs who are both useful in attack, the partnership of Luiz and Cahill could lead Chelsea back to the amazing defensive stats they used to reach.
Left-back: Ryan Bertrand | 23
Ryan Bertrand has come through the Chelsea academy and is beginning to establish himself as the follower to Ashely Cole.
Making nearly 40 appearances for the Blues last time around, Bertrand is now looking to build on that and make the left-back spot his own.
Reaching just under 40 appearances for Chelsea last season, Bertrand is definitely headed on the right track to becoming the next Ashley Cole.
Bertrand loves to take the ball and run up the field much like Cole and will be a very dangerous player with his speedy runs down the wing.
Defensive midfield: Marco van Ginkel | 20
Marco van Ginkel is at a young age and is already aspiring for first-team action for a club like the Europa League champions.
With plenty of time to gain experience to learn from fellow teammate Frank Lampard, Van Ginkel looks the most likely player at the Chelsea who is capable to re-create the amazing moments that Lampard reached.
The Dutch youngster is a box-to-box midfielder and is able to help out in defence as well as attack.
With the ability to execute well-timed surges up the pitch, he also has a great eye for goal and a tactical mind. He is also very comfortable defending, making him perfect for this position.
A quick-thinking and physically imposing player, he should comfortably slot into Mourinho's future plans.
Defensive midfield: Ramires | 26
Ramires may not be the towering figure of Marouane Fellaini and may not have the greatest tackling abilities of other defensive midfielders, but the Brazilian uses his pace and determination to win the ball in the defence.
He always give everything on the pitch and uses his blazing runs to carve open spaces in the opposition defence.
Ramires is a fantastic player for Chelsea and although maybe not recognised as well as Eden Hazard and Juan Mata, he does have his moments of brilliance - the wonderful chipped goal against Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League as case in point.
Right attacking midfield: Eden Hazard | 22
Eden Hazard needs no introduction - a skilful and eye-boggling Belgian midfielder, the youngster is becoming one of the hottest prospects of the Premier League.
In his first season at Chelsea he was nominated for both Player and Young Player of the Season.
Quick on his feet and able to strike a thunderous shot, Hazard is a rising star of the footballing world and Mourinho should do what he can to keep him at the club for many years to come.
If Hazard continues his fine form and is able to develop more as a player, it is just a matter of time before he is a Chelsea superstar.
Central attacking midfielder: Juan Mata | 25
Much like Hazard, Chelsea's two time Player of the Season also should be no surprise inclusion.
Mata has become the heart and soul of the Chelsea attack, with true Spanish creativity Mata can pick a pass out of nowhere and is able to set up players all over the pitch.
Mata is undoubtedly a must for Chelsea in the years to come.
Left attacking midfielder: Andre Schurrle | 22
Andre Schurrle is a young talent who is already a part of the German national team.
At 22, he is one striker who has already developed brilliant positioning and deadly finishing skills.
Well known for cutting into the middle of the pitch and firing a thunderous shot at goal, if Schurrle can replicate the form he had at Leverkusen and further improve on that, he will be a great asset for the Chelsea midfielder which is filled with talented young players.
Striker: Romelu Lukaku | 20
Romelu Lukaku is already a commanding striker in the Premier League. With incredible displays both at Anderlecht and on loan at West Brom last season, Lukaku is becoming a incredible striker, blending strength, pace and skill together.
He is a very physical player but is also possibly more skilful than Didier Drogba. Lukaku has scored goals almost for fun in Chelsea's pre-season campaign of Asia and should be looked greatly upon as the next Chelsea target man for years to come.

How Negative Publicity Ruined My Ambition - Former Super Eagle Emeka Ezeugo

Emeka Ezeugo lamentation: How negative publicity ruined my ambition

Former Super Eagles defensive midfielder, Emeka Ezeugo may not need much introduction in football circle. He made history with the senior national team for being in the squad that qualified Nigeria for her first World Cup appearance in USA in 1994. He rose to the pinnacle of his football career, enjoyed fame and publicity. But today he detests negative publicity like poison saying it has cost him fortunes. This much he said among other sundry issues in this interview.

Eagles’ bonus row
It was an unfortunate incident. That should not have happened in the first place because of the timing. The damage was quite enormous at the international level. But thank God, the presidency had waded into the matter. I think it was the president’s intervention that brought calm into the situation and further saved the nation from further embarrassment.

On the issue of the players’ refusal to wear Adidas boots provided by the Nigeria Football Federation, I don’t think the players had erred in anyway because some of them might have personal endorsement with other outfits. So, you can’t blame them out rightly for that.

For instance, when I was playing I had an endorsement from Adidas to wear their boot but my club signed a contract with NIKE. I think what the NFF needs to do is to explain to the players the reason for such directives.

I also read in the newspapers that the NFF was broke sometime ago. It was this situation that led to the cutting down in the backroom staff of the senior national team. I think it behoves the football authorities to explain all this to the players as well.

Keshi’s role
It is wrong to blame Keshi in this matter. It is entirely the players’ matter. He can only play the role of a mediator in this matter. The players have the right to protest if they feel strongly on any matter. I am saying this because I know the thinking of the players.

The truth of the matter is the players have very short time to play football. And he needs to plan for his future now. It is from the little money he makes now that he will keep for the rainy day. There is no pension scheme for the players put in place for them.

Once, a player crops an injury that is the end. He is left to carry his cross alone. If such a player is unlucky that he can't come out of the injury then that may puts paid to his career.

Moses’ snub
I don’t want to agree with the report in the media that Moses snubbed the Super Eagles’ camp. This was a guy who played out his heart during the Nations Cup.

I think there is a need to find out what the problems are before jumping into conclusion on the matter. Moses has sacrificed so much for taking a decision to play for Nigeria given the kind of humiliation he had suffered in the past.

I think the football authorities should find away to reach out to him possibly to know his problems.

Osaze’s return to Eagles
Yes, the likes of Osaze Odemwingie, Obafemi Martins and Kalu Uche still have a place in the national team. As a coach, if Osaze comes into the team and delivers for me I don’t care about what happens later. These are players with great experience and as you know you cannot buy experience in football.

As for Kalu Uche, he just came back from injury so Keshi needs to be patient with him. At times, you don’t need to rush a player if they are just coming back from injury. As for Martins, I am quite sure if he has another opportunity again he will prove his critics wrong.

Livelihood
I am into business to keep soul and spirit together. I have made several futile efforts to get a job with either the state of federal government sports ministry but still hopeful that anything can still happen. I don’t have any regret playing football. If it is possible to bring back my age to 20 years I will like to play football.

Great moment
That was in 1994 when Nigeria qualified for World Cup in US. I was happy that I was among some few Nigerian players that made history with the Super Eagles. I was also in 1988 Olympics Games. I also won trophies with some of the clubs I played with while I was in Europe.

Ex-international plights
The claims that some of the ex-internationals are not finding life easy may not be entirely true. It all depends on the parameter used to determine whether somebody is struggling to survive.

The fact remains that so many people have erroneous believe all the professional players made money. It is not entirely true. More so, it is not all the stories in newspapers about ex-international are true. It has once been reported in the media that Celestine Babayaro was bankrupt but when I met Babayaro it was a different story. This guy was doing well.

It was also reported in one of soft sell magazines that I am so broke that I am now living inside the National Stadium. I have the paper with me. I will definitely go to court because I see this as a calculated attempt to destroy my personality.

It is expected of Nigerian press to help resuscitating their life and also protect them even when it appears that life is not being kind to them. But the reverse is the case in Nigeria. The foreign media don’t do this. They always project their heroes in a positive light.

During our days we were not really playing for money but rather it was the love of the game that was driving us on. My main concern was to play for Enyimba not even to go to Europe. But today the orientation has changed as younger generation wants to go Europe and make money for themselves.

Look at the fate I suffered in the hands of Nigerian media sometime last year. I was already on line for Lesotho FA top job. I had done the interview expecting my letter of appointment.  I later had an appointment with my former teammate-Kaizer  Hamid when I was playing in Bagladash. So, I went to meet him and incidentally it coincided with when Nigeria was playing with Argentina at away in an international friendly tie.

I met my friend we had a nice time together .But the moment the local press discovered that it was me they almost mobbed me.  In a bid to escape from the prying eyes of the press guys I tried to enter into a supermarket holding my friend’s bag because he was trying to park his car. I didn’t know what he had in the bag. Not until the screening machine revealed that the bag contains a gun. I was later interrogated by the police and I told them that the gun belongs to Kaizer Hamid. When Hamid came he produced the licence of the gun and we were allowed to go.

But a Nigerian journalist that witnessed the scene just sensationalised the story saying I was caught with gun without reporting my own side of the story.

The story was everywhere and I sensed danger coming. The next thing was for the Lesotho FA to write me to explain in 40 words my connection with a gun. My brother, to cut a long story short that is how I lost the job. The matter was blown out of proportion by the Nigerian journalist that witnessed the whole episode.

I Was Privileged To play With Okocha - Aiyegbeni

Aiyegbeni's reminiscence: I was privileged to play with Okocha

Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has enthused that featuring with his soccer legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, in the senior national team was a huge privilege, affirming that the erstwhile Eagles' dynamo was the best Nigerian player.

In this interview, the Guangzhou R&F of China forward reminisces on his failure to star in the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup encounter against South Korea  as well as his soccer career.

What was your experience in your first outing in Israel?
At that time, I was only 17 years old. I must admit that it was quite difficult. It was somehow crazy for a young guy like me to leave home to a battle front. Whenever I reflect on that move, I  can only say that I was lucky.

How would you describe Israeli league?
Football in Israel is fantastic. It is professionally run. Also, it’s much more professional than Nigerian league and at par with many European leagues. I happen to be in the best team in the land (Maccabi Haifa). The club was very interesting. We were like a family. The president, coaches and players played together and joked after trainings and matches. I had quite interesting life and work experiences. At times, I couldn’t really distinguish between work and leisure because of my young age. But I later matured.

You look so big now. Are you like this from the beginning of your career?
No, I didn’t just get big one day. It was a gradual thing. I just kept practising my muscle building. In Israel, while I was been chanced off balls at times, I just told myself that I must get bigger and a little stronger. But when I entered England, I had to work on my physique because I didn’t want to be easily brought down or dispose off ball easily.

Many fans call you buffalo in China and I am sure you have other pet names. Which is your favourite nickname?
In England, they often call me Jacques, which is a very common nickname. Some people call me Boxer. But the funniest of my nicknames is Globe. In any case, my favourite nickname is The Bull. Some media people also call me the name.

How would you describe your first experience in England?
My movement to Portsmouth was a huge step in my career. The team was still in the championship then and we were able to promote.  In EPL, strikers must strive hard to score. That was when my power excites me because it was an advantage for me to do well. I was in Portsmouth for a few years. Then I went to Middlesbrough. It was a worthwhile experience. At Everton, it was great. I also enjoyed myself at Blackburn Rovers. It was a marvellous experience. I also had it nice when I was in England and no regret to play there.

You missed a very clear chance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. How did you feel?
Oh my God! I will never forget that moment. At that moment, I was ready to put the ball in the net, but missed scandalously. I thought the ball had gone in, but it didn’t. I didn’t understand how it happened.  In fact, I couldn’t believe it. I was just standing there laughing. I laughed at myself. If I had scored the goal, it would have taken Nigeria to the round of 16. Losing such a clear chance is what one must remember in a life time.

Nigeria has a lot of great players such as Okocha, Oliseh, Kanu among others. Who is the your number one?
Okocha is the best. No one is better than him. I was very fortunate to have played in the same team with him. He was an incredible player. We all saw his unique techniques and strength. He was also a good captain, always fighting for his teammates on and off the pitch. His communication with the coach was excellent. He was one of the greatest captains of our country.

You played in several famous stadiums in England. What were your experiences?
The Goodison Park, Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge are all great stadiums, but it felt particularly solemn to play at Goodison. While playing at Goodison Park, the atmosphere was charged and I had the feeling that we must beat every opponent there. Remembering Riverside Stadium (Middlesbrough home ground) would be emotional. That year, I was seriously injured and did not play, but the fans in the stands kept shouting my name and singing my praise even  though they were not on the pitch.  Fratton Park, I can only say is a fantastic stadium. There were sad memories at Ewood Park (Blackburn home). The fans’ songs touched me after the relegation.

What were the most annoying report about you in the media when you were  in England?
I’ve never had bad contents of my private gossip in the newspaper. I think I had a good relationship with the reporters. Sometimes when I played a bad game, some newspapers would simply write negative reports about me with sort of hatred, as if they would kill. They always want you to do well and win games. They never believe you should lose any game.

After games when you go out and get some fun, you have to be very careful because they always have a lens in front of you. As far as I know, most of the players consider this very annoying.

For nearly 10 years of your career in England, which  most dangerous defender did you face?
John Terry. He is really a very hard guy in defence. Rio Ferdinand is also good. Woodgate too. I played against him and also spent two years as teammates in Middlesbrough. He often knows the striker’s next action and what he is to do to stop him.

Who is your favourite coach at the club level?
Harry Redknapp. He always keeps joking with his players, even while at work. He would joke and suddenly change to work mood. He always tries to get a player with immense interest to work for him. David Moyes worked only at work and does not play.

Do you think Moyes will do well as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Manchester United?
Sir Alex Ferguson is a big coach and achiever. As far as I am concerned, Moyes can manage any club in England. He has to control the strength of Manchester United squad. I congratulate him on his appointment.

When you score a goal, you celebrate with two hands crossed and then swing. What does that mean?
Steven Piennar initiated that celebration when I was in Everton. He called on us players from Africa to celebrate that way together whenever any of us scored a goal. The motive was to show concern to poor children in Africa through this gesture.

Which was your most memorable goal and game so far?
I have scored many memorable goals, but I will only talk about Some of them. I have scored twice in a game many times. They are all memorable goals and games. Against Fulham in 2007/2008, I scored two goals for Everton to win 2-0. I remember playing for Blackburn Rovers against Swansea and scored four goals as we won 4 - 2 in the 2011/2012 season. It is a game I will never forget. I think the best goal I scored was at Everton against Stoke City in the 2010/2011 season. It was a left footed shot and we won 1-0.

It has been observed that you like to laugh a lot. In what situation do you find laughing difficult?
Every time I walked into the stadium, my heart will go to the game and I would laugh. I do not know what will happen tomorrow. I enjoy my time. When things are not going well, there is no point laughing.

Guangzhou R&F is not doing well now. How do you feel?
Playing football is my job. I love scoring goals and always want to win, but the team is not winning now. Definitely, I am disappointed. We are lacking victory now, but the moment we get a victory, we will be on track. We will keep fighting till the victory comes.

Who are your best pals at Guangzhou R & F?
Ross Eaton is a good friend of mine, and we talk on variety of topics, from football to life. Tang Miao and Lu Lin too. I think both of them are very good.

Who among your teammates speak good English?
Zhang Yaokun speaks English very well.

What have you gained playing in China apart from the jumbo salary?
I have been experiencing different cultures here. This is very important to me. For me to play here is a challenge. I know it won’t be easy, but I am adapting gradually.

You have scored three goals in four game this season. What do you think is wrong with your team?
First, we have not been lucky. We created several chances that we were unable to convert. You know football game  can be determined  within a twinkle of an eye. I don’t want to evaluate the performances of individuals. Personal skills are good, but we can also be a little more united as a team to do the job. We have gotten a victory now and that will enhance our morale. We hope that everything will be fine.

Eagles won  the 2013 AFCON in South Africa and are now preparing for World Cup qualifiers and Confederations Cup.  Do you think they can live up to expectation?
Nigeria is a country blessed with a lot of talented footballers. I was Happy when we won the Nations Cup. The victory was long over due. The players should brace up for the challenges ahead because it is obvious that all the teams will come against Nigeria as Africa champions. I believe Eagles will make the 2014 World Cup and do well at the Confederations Cup.

Ameobi Injured Again

Ameobi injured again

Super Eagles striker Shola Ameobi is once again injured after helping Newcastle United to a 1-0 victory over Blackpool in a pre-season friendly played on Sunday. The Nigeria international grabbed his third goal of pre-season with just five minutes on the clock and that proved enough to lead the visitors to a narrow win over their Championship opposition.

Manager Alan Pardew has now confirmed Ameobi’s latest injury, and is not sure he will return for the friendly against St Mirren today.

“Shola Ameobi picked up a dead leg, which was a shame, because he looked in really good shape,” Pardew said on skysports.com.

Ameobi, who is expected to make a return to national team duty for a friendly against South Africa in August after his debut in November, suffered an injury in Newcastle’s first pre-season game on Saturday July 20, 2013.

The highly publicised injury was just a minor as he returned for their next game where he scored to ensure Newcastle pick a draw in the 1-1 result.

Training Debut For Mikel With Chelsea

Super Eagles star John Obi Mikel got the first dose of the ‘new’ Jose Mourinho after making a debut training session on Monday under the Portuguese coach since making a switch from Real Madrid in June 2013.

Mikel is one of the late arrivals in the Chelsea camp having been granted extended holidays owing to national team engagements, which saw him, featured for the Super Eagles at ehe last FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Currently in the United States to take part in a pre-season tournament, Mikel who has been a subject of transfer speculations finally had a session with the rest of the Chelsea squad and indeed a chat with the ‘Happy One’ himself.

It is expected that Mikel’s future at the Bridge will be clearer in the coming days with growing speculations first suggesting a reunion with Didier Drogba in Turkey and later other reports pointing to the Ligue 1 to join big spenders, Monaco.

Ahmed Musa Sets Goal Target

Ahmed Musa has promised to do more after he scored the winning goal for CSKA Moscow in a 2-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday. Ahmed Musa has promised to do more after he scored the winning goal for CSKA Moscow in a 2-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday.

He scored the match winner in 82nd minute with a volley inside the six-yard box off Seydou Doumbia's header rebound off the post.

Musa has scored two goals in three games and champions CSKA are now on seven points.
An elated Musa told MTNFootball that he was thrilled to score his club’s match winner.

"I am very happy to score the goal which eventually gave us three points. I am excited, we played well as a team. I will keep doing my best to keep scoring for my team," Musa was quoted as saying.

Compatriot Obinna Nsofor was an unused substitute for Lokomotiv.

Keshi Rules Out Yobo Recall

Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi has dismissed Joseph Yobo as a talking point, as the countdown to the crunch World Cup qualifier against Malawi begins. The Super Eagles coach, told futaa.com in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, insists that Yobo is not an issue with the Super Eagles.

Also some publications have insinuated that the presence of the former Everton defender may have averted the crisis in Namibia, when the Eagles refused to board the plane for Brazil.

Keshi strongly disagreed: “I really don’t think the presence of Yobo has anything to do with what happened out there in Namibia,” the Big Boss said.

“Anyone who has followed the history of Nigerian football will know that players and administrators disagree at times. And that happens sometimes in spite of the presence of the leader.

“I am also sure that some of the players were probably in contact with him, as the captain. There is every likelihood that he is aware of what was going on, I am not saying he is, but it’s likely.”

Keshi continues to insist that Yobo remains his skipper despite the continuos absence of the Fenerbahce man from the Eagles.

West Ham Joins Osaze’s Chase

West Ham United are looking to capitalise on the failure of Crystal Palace and Fulham in securing Osaze Odemwingie. The out of favour West Brom striker was rumoured to be on the verge of moves to Ian Holloway’s side and Martin Jol’s side, but both fell through. That has left the door open for Sam Allardyce to add some panache alongside Andy Carroll, according to The Times.

West Ham have turned their attentions to the Nigerian, having failed to agree terms with the former Chelsea striker Kalou – who reportedly wanted assurances of a starting role within the Hammers attack for next season.

Al Nasr of Dubai are considering increasing their offer for former Lokomotiv Moscow striker. Al Nasr had asked West Brom to inform them what they considered to be an acceptable fee by Tuesday, after their initial bid of £850,000 was rejected.

But that deadline has now passed without further communication from ‘The Hawthorns’, leaving ‘The Blue Wave’ to look elsewhere for summer recruits.

Osaze is now deemed surplus to requirements at ‘The Hawthorns’, having tried to engineer a move away from West Brom back in January, and with ‘The Baggies’ closing in on a loan move for Matej Vydra it appears that West Ham will have no obstacles in acquiring his services.

The Nigeria striker, who has one year left on his contract, continues to train with the reserves.

He has scored 31 goals in 90 appearances for the West Midlands club since joining from Lokomotiv Moscow in August 2010.

FIFA Agent Raises Alarm Over Nigerian Players’ Devaluation

FIFA agent raises the alarm over Nigerian players’ devaluation
Nigerian FIFA players agent, Adam Mohammed, has raised the alarm over the drastic drop in the transfer value of Nigerian players, blaming fake FIFA agents and player’s curiosity to sign cheap deals in many obscure countries.

Fielding questions from the media in Abuja, the agent who has players like Macaulay Chrisantus and newly invited Super Eagles home-based player, Alhaji Gero, further lamented what he referred to as the unorganised transfer structure in the country as another factor responsible for the devaluation of the players.

“The structures, in terms of contract and financial reward in the country, are not so organised. It is obvious that the players are not paid well. Majority of them who don’t have good financial background but are under pressure to satisfy the yearnings of their families, accept anything as transfer offer especially because our league doesn’t pay well,” he lamented.

“Again we have many people who claim to be FIFA agents, deceiving the players even when they are not licensed. It has created a lot of confusion. This has been responsible for the value of Nigerian players dropping everyday. They have cheapened Nigerian players and offered them at ridiculous amounts to clubs.however, without being judgmental, the situation will improve, especially as more professionals are coming in now,” he noted.

The CEO of Matrix Sports Management also spoke on the future of two of his players – Macaulay and Gero – assuring that both had bright future in the Super Eagles.

“Gero’s invitation to the Super Eagles was a big surprise, especially as he did not get enough playing time with the Flying Eagles, but Keshi is a good coach who has eye for talents. They have been able to bring out players from nothing and make them something.

“As for Gero, it is a big chance to prove himself even though Eagles’ invitation is enough plus for him. As a player I picked from nowhere, it gives me pleasure and satisfaction, seeing him grow from Kaduna United to Rangers to U-20 and Super Eagles.

“I had done it before with Macaulay Chrisantus. I picked him on the street of Kaduna and made him a champion, winning the golden boot in the U-17 World Cup in 2007. I have about four players in the current U-17 and it is rewarding to see that the fruit of labour is coming to bear.

“Macaulay’s case was a problem of taking a player who doesn’t have any domestic league experience to Europe. We did our best, taking him to Hamburg on a five-year contract. He was well paid and even got a good academic foundation.

“Macaulay did well in the lower league in Germany before leaving for Spain where he is scoring very well. A couple of clubs are looking for him now. We will see what happens. He is a material for the future Super Eagles and he has a good chance,” he assured.

I Almost Urinated On Myself Against Spain - Super Eagles Defender Azubuike Egwuekwe

I almost peed in my pants against Spain – Egwuekwe

Home-based Super Eagles defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe (MON), may have learnt from the mistakes of some ex-internationals that live or died in penury after squandering their fortunes. The Warri Wolves captain who remains grateful to Stephen Keshi for the rare opportunity of playing for Nigeria said the Super Eagles’ gaffer not only guides players in the national team how to play ‘but also guides us on how to invest our money’ for life after football.

In this interview with Weekend Soccer Star, Egwuekwe, revealed that he invested over 80% of the Nations Cup largesse on landed property. The towering defender who now cruises in 2007 model Infinity Jeep also spoke on a number of other issues including how he was jittery when he was about to be introduced in the match against World Champions, Spain at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, his national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), millionaire status and how he has been coping with pressures from fun seeking ladies among others.

Impression on Nigeria/Ivory Coast CHAN qualifier

It was a good game despite the fact that we had some players that were playing for the first time in the national team.

Self assessment since debut in the national team
I’m really grateful to God because I would say that my confidence has been on the rise between the time I made my debut in the national team and now. I see myself as a better player now.

Playing against World Champion, Spain, at the Confederations Cup
When I was about to be introduced in the match against Spain at the FIFA Confederations Cup, I was a little jittery but I had to encourage myself as a player. I said to myself; I can do it! And the confidence just came. At the end of the game I was disappointed with the result because we lost the match despite playing so well but I was satisfied with my performance. I still give glory to God because He said that in all situations, we should give Him the glory.

Did you think Nigeria had a chance against Spain?
Actually, I did not think about losing to Spain before the match. I was very confident because we played against most of the Spanish players in the international friendly match against Catalonia before the Confederations Cup. I believe in miracle, the result could have been the other way round but we lost; that’s football. You could see that we created so many goal scoring chances but failed to convert them while Spain utilized their chances.

Possible Nigeria/Spain rematch at next year’s World Cup

I expect that before the World Cup in Brazil next year, I would have played more international friendly matches to gain more confidence. And if I have the opportunity to play against Spain again I believe that I would do better than I did at the Confederations Cup. Should we meet Spain again at the World Cup next year, it’s going to be difficult for them. Anything can happen, we can beat Spain.

National Award of MON
I’m happy over the national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and I must confess that it came to me as a surprise. I give glory to God for every thing.

Millionaire status
(Laughs) I don’t understand what you mean by millionaire. But it’s okay. I’m happy. What is happening to me now is just like a dream and a big surprise to me. Sometimes I just look at myself and I would say, Lord, I thank you! Because I know that when you thank God for what He has done for you, He will do more.

Coping with pressure from women
Actually, it has not been an easy task dealing with pressure from ladies since I returned from the Nations Cup in South Africa. You know as a young man that is seen to be doing well, the girls have been flocking around me but I have cleverly avoided them so far. But as a guy, I do catch my fun sometimes. However, I still have my love relationship very much intact. I’m sticking to my girl friend.

Investment
I’m working under coaches’ guidance because they not only teach us on the field of play but also teach us how to manage our money. So i invested about 80% of the money I made from the Nations Cup in landed property. For instance, I have two buildings in Jos. I have almost completed a building in Warri. I also have other parcels of land here and there. At the moment, I drive Infinity Jeep, 2007 model. If God blesses me more, I may buy a better ride someday.

Foreign deal
Yes, I have offers from foreign clubs but I want to keep the offers to myself for now until any of the deals sails through.

Warri Wolves’ season so far

When I was away to the FIFA Confederations Cup, I was disturbed by the reports I was getting concerning my team’s performance in the league. But by the time I came back I saw that we’re up there. I’m impressed with our position at the end of the first stanza of the season. I’m sure that at the end of the season, we shall finish first or second. Right now I’m returning to Warri to join my teammates in the campaign for the league title.
