Having already been linked with several big names in this transfer window, Moyes is yet to claim any signatures other than that of the Under-20 Uruguay defender, Guillermo Varela.
Moyes has been subject to some quite spectacular transfer rumours such as the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, more recently Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur.
Though these potential signings would make Moyes' first season at the helm of the Manchester club a little easier, two have already been almost completely dismissed.
Fabregas seems to be the only rumour that has any truth to it as United have already had two bids for the Spaniard rejected - the latest the £30 million plus add-ons.
However, despite the big-money offer, the recently hired Barcelona boss, Gerardo Martino, has reiterated the Spanish giants stance on the midfielder, stating to Sky Sports: "It is normal that many clubs are interested in our player Cesc. That is a source of pride for us, but we'll reject all bids."
On top of those three previously mentioned midfielders, it has also been speculated that Newcastle star Yohan Cabaye maybe on the move to Old Trafford, though again no bid has been mentioned.
More recently, the 22-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has been linked with a £20 million move to the Red Devils.
On top of those, both Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini have been constantly rumoured to be in the process of following their former boss. It was in fact speculated that Baines had been the subject of a £15 million bid from the defending champions, though nothing came of the bid.
There may be many reasons Moyes is finding it difficult to throw his weight around in this new transfer market, a market that seems to be ever increasing in value, yet most likely it is that players are too uncertain of the new boss and how he may perform in his first season.
Despite the fact Moyes built a reasonable reputation at the Merseyside club there are many doubts that players may have about his impact at such a prestigious outfit.
Alternatively, the fact Moyes is unproven at the top level may be irrelevant, but top players from other leagues may not hold the Glaswegian tactician in high regard - yet.
Perhaps by the end of the transfer window Moyes may manage to sign a potential replacement for Paul Scholes, or at least a midfielder adequate to fill the void left by the Manchester United legend.
If not, then the doubts may remain about Moyes' pulling power, and if early results do not go to plan, perhaps people may start to panic at Old Trafford.
