Newcastle transfer target Bafetimbi Gomis failed to show up for talks with his current club Lyon.
A meeting had been set up with the French striker to discuss his
future, after attracting interest from the Magpies, along with Fulham
and Marseille.
Both parties were due to settle on fees for a move, but the Ligue 1
club's president Jean-Michael Aulas has said the 27-year-old was not
present at the time they had agreed.
Gomis is seen as an important transfer target by Newcastle, who are
desperate to sign a player in the centre-forward position, and they have
already missed out on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left
Saint-Ettiene to join Borussia Dortmund.
Aulas told L'Equipe: "We gave him a letter by hand but he did not come."
The Tyneside club are looking for better competition for Papiss
Cisse's place in the team, but now that they have managed to sort out
their differences with the Senegalese striker, over whether he would
wear the club's new sponsor on his shirt next season, this has helped
the problem.
They are also keen on signing Aston Villa's Darren Bent and QPR's Loic Remy.
