Arsenal move for £15m Bayern Munich midfielder.
Arsene Wenger wants to bring Bayern Munich's Luiz Gustavo to the Emirates.
Luiz
Gustavo is the latest player on Arsenal's radar as they consider making
a move for the Champions League winner, who the Daily Mirror report as
being available for as little as £15 million.
Bayern Munich have
recently signed Thiago Alcantra who plays in a similar position, and it
is understood he will be Pep Guardiola's first choice for the
forthcoming season.
The news alerted Arsenal that Gustavo could be
interested in a move elsewhere in search of a better chance of first
team football.
With the World Cup being hosted in Gustavo's home
country of Brazil next summer, the 25-year-old has admitted that it is
imperative for him to being playing first team football for the 2013/14
campaign, as he looks to cement his position in the Brazil team.
It
is believed that Bayern Munich will want a fee of around £15 million for
Gustavo, who has two years left on his contract. But the Gunners face
competition from German side Wolfsburg, who are also eager to strike up a
deal that would allow Gustavo to remain in Germany.
Gustavo is a
robust defensive midfielder, a position that Arsenal are in need of
strengthening if they are to build a more effective defensive unit.
A
strong player in this department is something Arsenal fans have been
calling for and Gustavo represents the type of player Arsenal have
missed in recent years
