Super Eagles Oboabona Sparks Controversy In England
Godfrey Oboabona has sparked a huge controversy in England, for reportedly snubbing Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. The Gunners manager had asked the Super Eagles defender to come to Emirates for trials after he shone at the Nations Cup in January.
The story, which was reported by British tabloid, The Sun, stirred a huge controversy as fans passed their comments on the issue.
“Erm, who? And you won what?” A fan wrote.
“Hahahahahaha, that’s funny, it’s not like he even plays for a league club, oh well, better you stay in Sunshine Stars bench if we hurt your feelings so much,” another wrote.
But another fan rose in staunch support of the defender: “The last time I check the fella is an African Nations Cup champion, so he does deserve his respect. Breaking into the Super Eagles as a home-based player ain’t easy one bit,” he wrote.
“Drogba, Toure and co never got that honour of winning. If he was an European champion, he would have been treated with respect and a lot of matches and teams in the European version were not up to scratch. So, give on to him what he deserves,” he added.
“A champion is a champion whatever their skin colour is and its disrespectful to insult an entire continent over a mere under performing football club. You don’t invite a continental champion, whichever continent it is to come for trial, it’s an insult period! You either take him as you see him or you don’t, only one player at Arsenal football club has ever had that honour of being African Champion!” the writer noted.
