Ruud Gullit Applies For Mali Job

Former Netherlands international Ruud Gullit is among the 50 candidates vying for the post of Mali head coach left vacant since the departure of Frenchman Patrice Carteron, who led the outfit to win bronze in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Mali Football Federation president Hammadou Kola Cisse says he has received up to 50 applications from European and African coaches, prompting the body to extend the submission deadline from July 12 to 27.
Former Togo coach Didier Six and former DR Congo coach Claude Le Roy are also in the race to snaffle the job.
According to Cisse, four names currently figure on the shortlist, former Cameroon coach Javier Clemente from Spain, Ruud Gullit, Brazilian Valdo and Diego Garzitto.
“The ideal applicant must be a former player with coaching experience. Must speak French and preferably accept to reside in Mali in order to participate fully in the development of national football,” the FA boss says.
The Eagles have been eliminated from the 2014 World Cup qualifying.
