After identifying the need to recruit an eventual successor
to team captain Carles Puyol, Barcelona have turned they sights to
Thiago Silva of Paris Saint-Germain.
They see the captain of the Ligue 1 champions as the ideal fit. Barcelona had initially bid €32 million
for his services but PSG immediately declined that offer. As it stands,
Silva would not rule out a move for the Catalans and, with PSG standing
firm, it is down to Barcelona to activate the Brazilian's release
clause if they hope to sign him.
However, PSG president Sheikh Nasser Al-Khelaifi has publicly stated
that, if Barcelona should meet Thiago’s buyout fee, then the French
club would do the same to the €250 million clause in Lionel Messi's
contract.
With all of this being discussed and contemplated, one has to ask the
question if Messi would consider leaving Barca to go to PSG let alone
any other club in the world.
Messi is undoubtedly the best player presently and arguably the best
there ever was. He owes this recognition on this global scale to one
special club, FC Barcelona. He is on that long list of one club men and
he will continue to be a Barca man until he retires.
At present, there is no need for him to play for another team, he has
all that he needs there, and some of the greatest talents in the world
will play behind him and alongside him. He really has nothing left to
prove, only to carry on to be the best the game has seen and will see
for some time to come.
So it really doesn’t matter what Al-Khelaifi threatens, at the end of the day if PSG loses Silva, they could never get Messi.
